Edward Gleiman (I) was sworn in as Chairman of the Commission on February 23, 1994. Chairman Gleiman was reappointed in 1998 for a second term which expires in October 2004. Chairman Gleiman began his federal government career in 1968 as an examiner at the Patent Office, followed by assignments at the President's Cost of Living Council and at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare on the Secretary's Operational Planning Staff and as Director of Fair Informational Practices. He then served on the staff of the House Government Operations Committee. Prior to his appointment as Chairman, Mr. Gleiman served as staff director on the U.S. Senate Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Federal Services, Post Office, and Civil Service.

George A. Omas (R) currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Commission. Initially sworn in as a Postal Rate Commissioner on August 8, 1997, Mr. Omas was reappointed for a second term expiring in October 2006. Prior to joining the Commission Mr. Omas served in the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms in the House of Representatives. He served on the Committee on Post Office and Civil Service for approximately 18 years.

W.H. "Trey" LeBlanc, III (D) was nominated Commissioner by President Ronald Reagan and confirmed by the Senate on November 24,1987. On June 8, 1988 he was reappointed for a term expiring in November 1994, and on August 14, 1995 he was reappointed for a term expiring in November 2000. Commissioner LeBlanc served as Vice Chairman of the Postal Rate Commission from October 8, 1993 through July 23, 1996. Prior to his appointment to the Commission he was president and general manager of a family-owned lumber company in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Ruth Y. Goldway (D) was sworn in as Commissioner on April 15, 1998 following her appointment by President Clinton. Her term expires on November 22, 2002. Commissioner Goldway is an experienced public affairs professional with expertise in citizen participation, consumer and urban planning issues, education and the arts. Formerly she served as Assistant Director, California Department of Consumer Affairs, Mayor of Santa Monica and Manager of Public Affairs for the Getty Trust.

Dana B. Covington (R) was confirmed by the United States Senate October 21, 1998 and sworn in as a Postal Rate Commissioner on November 2, 1998. His term expires October 14, 2004. Mr. Covington was the Director of Communications, Planning and Policy for the Sergeant at Arms Office of the United States Senate and worked for the National Republican Congressional Committee after running for Congress in Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District in 1996.
